Aloysius Bell is the alter-ego of Montreal-based, Winnipeg-born singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist, Annick Brémault. Aloysius Bell, a persona born of deep existential meanderings—and whose name is a nod to the iconic Brontë sister—aims to shed light on shadowed corners and liminal spaces.
In 2019, drawing on her love of art and literature, her background in modern dance and theatre, and the experience of spending three years in Japan, Aloysius Bell released her first singles, Mountains and Your Heart Is Feathers. The tracks offer a glimpse into Aloysius Bell's introspective world, showcasing an ethereal, open-eyed perspective, atmospheric pop language and prose both minimalistic and masterful.
Sought after as a background and guest vocalist, vocal arranger and creative collaborator (Willows, Damien Robitaille, Diogo Ramos, Tina Leon), the former member of the defunct Juno Award-winning pop/soul/r’n’b group Chic Gamine, has toured extensively in North America and internationally.
In 2024, Aloysius Bell released her debut EP, WARM THING—an intimate, finely crafted body of work featuring disarmingly vulnerable lyrics and hook-driven melodies. Co-produced with Toronto artist Driftnote (Korea Town Acid, R. Flex) and mixed by David Plowman (July Talk, Dillan Ponders), the EP fuses indie pop, electro, and R’n’B textures, setting the spotlight on her agile, evocative voice.
“This song is like a musical confession, a sincere exploration of identity and authenticity. The delicate instrumentation, characteristic of the singer-songwriter, immerses us in a space of reflection. Aloysius Bell's voice acts as a beacon guiding you through the complexities of self-exploration (...) "That Is Me" is a reminder that music can be a window to the soul, and Aloysius Bell throws it wide open.” - Somos Grandes (Spain)
“With beautifully observed lyrics, (Wreckage) unfolds gently with some timeless and soulful electronica (...) The highlight is certainly Annick’s singing. Her voice is utterly mesmerising.” - Graeme Smith, York Calling (UK)
“With “Wreckage,” Aloysius Bell delivers one of the most beautiful surprises of the year so far. Her ability to share her vulnerability through music makes her work not only accessible, but also deeply human.” - IGGY Magazine, (France)
